It’s always a bit of a surprise to hear a politician admitting they got something wrong, and apologising. I understand there have actually been more confirmed sightings of rocking-horse poo. So when the Deputy PM, Nick Clegg, did his earnest to-camera apology regarding tuition fees, you could have heard a penny drop. If any of us actually had any pennies left to drop. Strangely, this apology seemed to be more about the fact that the Lib Dems had stated that they were going to do something, not the fact that they hadn’t. Which is a bit like saying you’re aren’t apologising for forgetting to put the bins out, you’re just sorry you said you’d do it in the first place. According to Eddie Jordan (and he's completely reliable, right?) tomorrow is the day when we'll find out some of the big changes in driver line-ups for 2013. Schumi to retire again? Robohamilton to join Mercedes? Kovaleinen, di Resta, Perez or just about any driver (currently in F1, or even dead, it doesn't seem to matter) in the vacant and tantrum-stained McLaren seat? It was sadly ironic that, just after everyone escaped unscathed from a massive first corner accident at the last race, Prof. Sid Watkins, who had done such great work improving the safety of F1, should pass away. There are many drivers racing, and retired, who owe him their lives, not just through his life-saving treatment, but his tireless work to prevent them from being in a situation that would require it. Rest in peace, Sid. And thanks. The week prior to the race also brought the news that the man we all thought was BBC through and through, Jake Humphrey, will be leaving his role at anchorman of the channel’s coverage to become a Footballerism pundit for a new station run by BT. Splendid! I do like the Singapore GP - great spectacle, enthusiastic support, and Michael Schumacher being a tit. What more could you ask for?
