It's nearly summer...

Can I just check something with you? It’s been worrying me for a couple of weeks now and   it’s about time I developed a decent (if irrational) obsession - It is May, isn’t it? And not March? Right. I’m a bit confused then. March featured temperatures well in to the 20’s, beautiful sunshine, and the worrying sight of me with more than one button of my shirt undone. Steady, ladies. So far, May has featured rain, chilliness, frosts, hail, more chilliness, more rain, parkiness and very occasional bits of sunshine. Before it rains again. I’ve even been unsure if what I can see is blossom from trees drifting down or a bit of snow. Frankly, even that wouldn’t surprise me. In fact, just about the only thing to prove we haven’t just got the months starting with ‘M’ muddled up is that it’s not completely dark at 10pm now, which is a bit unfortunate, really. It just gives us more time to spot how damn cold it is and yet another opportunity to stare forlornly as more precipitation depo

Fantasy Formula 1: Spain - the other stuff

Hey, kids! What time is it?! No, seriously - my watch has stopped. It's random stuff time? Splendid. I just happen to have some secreted about my person. Ooo! Naughty corner: Kimi – 5 races back, several podiums. Michael – 3 seasons back and... erm... complaining about tyres, why it was better in the old days, and clumsily crashing into Senna. Schumi gets my unwanted vote this time. Hero: All the team personnel who immediately rushed in to try and tackle the blaze at Williams and make sure everyone was out OK. Bravo. Behind that, Maldonado. I’m critical of his abilities and tendency to crash, but he was brilliant this time out. Williams too. Fantasy Formula 1 driver of the day was Lewis ‘explain to me why I need to stop on track again?’ Hamilton, with a whopping 36 FF1 points. Mark E makes it 5 races at the front, and still has a reasonably good lead. Is that an extra zero in my spreadsheet...? Front to back gap – it’s fallen slightly, but 440 points is still pr

Spanish GP - Pastor's hot!

After a few weeks of no races, but plenty of miles on track, the first in-season test for several years highlighted that Red Bull and Lotus seemed to have found extra time. Oh, and the Williams had improved a bit... Q1 in Spain saw Senna drop out, which seemed somewhat at odds with the pace of his team-mate. Q2 turned into a bit of a nightmare for some of the big names, as just a tenth of a second separated 5 th and 12 th places. Unfortunately, Button and Webber timed it badly and found themselves as spectators for the final push. Massa once again dropped out in Q2 as well, making it 5 races in a row. In a team where failure isn’t tolerated, his days must surely be numbered. Maldonado was fastest, too.   Q3 proved just how important tyres have become in F1, as Rosberg, Vettel and Schumacher didn’t bother to put in competitive times, whilst Kobayashi couldn’t, his car having ground to a halt at the end of Q2. The remaining 6 went for it, and it was Hamilton who bagged pole by

Fantasy Formula 1 - Spain results

Good to see Montoya winning again. Nice to see Schumacher beaten, and that Finnish chappy going well, whilst.... hang on a sec.... It's not the early 90's, is it? That wasn't Montoya - it was Maldonado. In a Williams. Winning a race. Excuse me a second - I need to fall off my chair... That's better. I have regularly pointed out to anyone who will listen (and quite a few others who didn't want to, but didn't get a choice) that Pastor isn't very good. Well, credit where it's due - he drove a great race against stiff opposition. A brilliant result for the Williams Team, and on Frank's 70th birthday too. Maaaaaarvelous. Anyway, it's who scored what time in the land of Fantasy F1: RACE RESULT Position Name   Points 1 Paul 92 2 Henry 82 =3 James 81 =3 Russell 81 5
