Battle of the egos

The monobrowed one has come out and said he thinks his biggest rival next year will be the stretching-the-boundaries-of-reasonable-behaviour German one. (Alonso, Schumacher, in case that wasn't completely bleedin' obvious.)

Well, they're possibly the two drivers in F1 at the moment who cause the largest amount of raised eyebrows and debate when their names are mentioned, particularly when it comes to "playing fair".

Alonso did qualify his statement by adding that Schuey would be his biggest threat if he had a decent car. Is that the case though? Nando's statement seems to imply a supreme confidence that he'll be at the front next year - not an altogether unreasonable assumption, but a bit arrogant maybe. He was nearly right about being able to win last year's title when seemingly completely out of it mid-season, though.

But, assuming Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes all have fairly equal cars (Ooh, I've started drooling), won't Vettel be a big challenge? Hamilton? Webber and Button? Rosberg?

Apart from being a pretty ace driver, does Mr Grumpypants also possess clairvoyance? Michael is still a great driver, but will he be completely back on it this year, or have the young 'uns got the measure of him now?

Testing starts shortly... we could be about to find out....

(Cassetting it today, still the Chillout Session. Smooooooth.)

  1. Maybe he does have Spanish gypsy roots (no racism intended) and can predict the future. When I read about these comments I thought he was crazy. If he's right I'll be very surprised - he's got his eye on the wrong German.
Mr Schumacher will always be one to watch out for though, and we all know why - ( & shouldn't he be applying for an allotment and flicking through a Suttons catalogue by now).
Not long now - bring it on!

Malaysian Grand Prix - Vettel hot, but not bothered

Malaysia. It's always hot, and it always rains. Except the 2nd part is no longer true (unless you count the drizzly bit around lap 14). Saturday's qualifying session had highlighted the fact that Red Bull and McLaren seemed well matched on pace, but also that Ferrari were struggling. Whilst Vettel bagged another pole, followed by Hamilton, Webber and Button, Alonso was only 5th, and Massa 7th, with Nick Heidfeld an excellent 6th on the grid between the two red cars. At this point, I would like to break momentarily for a small rant: How many times do I have to say Heidfeld is good? Why wasn't he given a top drive years ago? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! ARE YOU BLIND!!!?? Ahem. The Hispanias somehow managed to a) turn up b) remember to bring cars c) get both of them on the track d) actually get both of them within 107%. Pretty remarkable really. Oh, and it didn't rain. Race day looked a more likely candidate for a drop of the wet stuff. The start was exciting, with

The joy of six

Last Friday, the 4th of May, marked a significant anniversary for me. As my full page, 305th, newspaper outing was published in Cumbria's The Mail and News and Star, it was six years exactly since my first "Thank grumpy it's Friday" column in the North West Evening Mail, as it was back then. Amazing. I've mentioned before about the journey to the first column, through the paper's Big Blogger contest, and how I very nearly packed it in at the start of this year, only to be offered the full page. I said I'd review how it was going after a few months, but a stressful house move throughout this period means my perspective on all that is somewhat skewed - it's hard to make the time to write, and even to research or concentrate, when your life is all about legal paperwork, bewilderment, boxes and bubblewrap. To add to the confusion, I recently discovered that my original contact at the paper has left. So far, no-one has been in touch about who I no

I know I'll regret this...

For @Feisty_Onion @BroughtonLass @LizWestmorland Me... before the grumpiness set in. Have a great weekend.
