China's Shiny Button

At this point in the F1 season in 2009, Jenson Button was leading the championship. Fast forward a year and the story is the same. But what's more surprising is that Button now has 2 wins driving for McLaren whilst Hamilton has none. Lewis is becoming so desperate to emulate his older (and wiser?) team-mate, he's even taken to growing a daft beard. Give it up Lewis - you look like you rested your chin on a freshly painted table. China saw not only Jenson win again, but the Red Bull team once more score a pole (this time with Vettel) only to see it slip away, with Seb only managing 6th and Webber 8th. And what a race it was - rain coming and going and two safety car periods, plus the new Red Baron (step forward Fernando.. Oh, you already have) getting a start that was just a bit too nippy for the stewards. Mind you, 4 pit stops and a drive-through penalty still saw him finish in 4th, so it wasn't exactly a wasted afternoon. Hamilton and Vettel tried to drive along the same b

Beans

Nuts. I'm going to a wedding in August. Or maybe September. Crap - I really should check that, shouldn't I? Anyway, yesterday I dug out my suit and tried it on. It seems to have shrunk a fair bit whilst hanging up. Because of this, I now need to lose some weight so that I can fit in it again without turning purple and passing out, as I'm making a wild guess that this wouldn't be popular in a wedding environment, and might detract from the bride & groom's big day. Whilst pondering my options today (which are generally pretty bleak - it seems you actually have to eat less AND do excercise if you want to lose weight) it was suggested to me by Mrs Hamilbutton that I have beans in my salad. Those nasty, powdery, disgusting, putrid, vomit-inducing, vile, hideous, repulsive, crappy red kidney bean things. For some reason, a fascinating mental image appeared in my mind of a row of the little red gits lined up along the edge of the worktop in the kitchen and me whilstlin

Not a bad view....

If this doesn't work, blame the fact that I'm "technologically disadvantaged" (or crap at this, if you want it in simpler terms). Anyway, here's a quick, stunningly low quality, clip taken on my mobile of the view from the cottage we stayed at in Cornwall last week. Ahhhhhh. Wish I was still there.... (I got the Bluuuuuues tonight: John Lee Hooker reckons "I'm In The Mood")

Malaysian GP - Vettel finally gets there

I didn't see qualifying for Malaysia - I think I was somewhere on the M5 at the time and for reasons I don't quite understand, I couldn't listen to it on the radiogram in the car either. Thanks to the wonders of the BBC F1 website, I got a potted highlights last night - wow, sorry I missed it! Some typically moist Malaysian weather made McLaren and Ferrari look rather foolish, with only Button making it through to Q2. Unfortunately, he was busy looking for a spade to dig himself out of a gravel trap, so never took part. Both Lotus cars were ahead of the Ferarris, both Force India and Williams cars made it into the top 10 and Rosberg managed an excellent 2nd place on the grid. Webber bagged pole with a stunning drive on intermediate tyres whilst everyone else was paddling around on full wets. It didn't do him a lot of good though. He was caught napping by Vettel at the first corner of the race this morning and had to make do with 2nd place behind his team mate at the end

Cereal killer

Remember that bloody annoying packet of Corn Flakes I mentioned? ("Bad Cereal Day" 19th January). I finally finished them. I'm now free of the tyranny of toasted squashed bits of corn everywhere except in the bowl. I feel so much better now. Or maybe it's because I've been on holiday... The bad news is, I managed to tear my shirt earlier, by holding on to the cuff whilst attempting to put on a jumper. You know... you don't want to wind up with the sleeve all bunched up inside your wooly. Except I held on too tight and don't know my own strength. Nuts. Hello to Danielle, follower number 3! Danielle already has to listen to the live version of me rambling on all day at work, so quite why a blog version is needed too is anyone's guess. Anyway, welcome! (Tonight I'm musically angry, so it's spot of Iggy & The Stooges - "I Got A Right".)

It's good to be back...

Returned today from a lovely week in Coverack in Cornwall. Weather was mostly "challenging" but got a walk or two in and had a relaxing time. Did you know that Cornish people are legally obliged to sell you a pastie is you knock on their door and they live under 100ft from the sea? It's true. A very nice old lady provided us with two that were so hot that even by the time we'd driven for three-quarters of an hour, then walked down cliffs to a beach, lounged around for a bit then decided to eat them, they were still warm. And delicious. Managed to catch the re-run of the Australian GP. Great race - see? F1 isn't boring after all. Just add water! Great drive by Button and amusing to see Hamilton irritated by his team's decision. Doesn't like being beaten, does he? Managed to get home in time tonight to see Matt Smith's appearance as the new Doctor Who. I thought David Tennant was brilliant, but Smith got off to a great start in a witty first outing, alon
