Fantasy Formula 1 - Australia: The other stuff

Right, as promised, here's some more random stuff relating to Fantasy F1. First up, the driver and team statistics, so you can see who got what in FF1 points... Naughty corner? I’m going for Rubens; On what planet did he actually think that move on Nico was going to work? Hero? Without a doubt, Vitaly Petrov. With his much-lauded team-mate Kubica out of action, he did Renault proud, and it seems unlikely even Robert could have finished higher that the Russian did. Spurs earned – just don’t cock it up next time. The top three drivers after the first race are Vettel with 26, Petrov on 21 and Hamilton with 18. Early days, but good to see Sutil and D’Ambrosio next up with 16 each. The top three teams after the first race are Red Bull with 26, Renault on 21 and McLaren with 18. Startling to see Virgin in 4th at the moment too! Congratulations to Heather for taking the lead of FF1. Can she hold on to it though...? Everyone started this season in minus figures; 5 have made i

Australian Grand Prix - Vettel on top down under

Crikey, there’s a lot going on in F1 2011, isn’t there? Unless you’re Hispania of course. DRS, KERS, tyre strategies and degradation rates, plus the fact of that young German chappie bagging pole by a substantial margin (and it then turned out he hasn’t even got KERS on the car) all made for an interesting qualifying session on Saturday. The McLaren boys breathed a planet-sized sigh of relief and finally came good after eating an octopus (or something), Petrov was pretty handily in the top 10, as was Kobayashi, whilst Schumi struggled, Rubens parked it, Sutil miraculously avoided a huge shunt and Heidfeld managed to go out in the first session. Oh, and Lotus were a bit crap, but not as crap at HRT, who didn’t make it round inside a fortnight of the other teams (or is its 107%? They mean pretty much the same thing in F1), and therefore suffered the F1 equivalent of “you can’t play on our track, you smell!”. No mileage = no chance to improve. Can anyone see them lasting the season? A

Fantasy Formula 1 2011 - Australia results

Evenin' all. Will do a little write-up, provide a few stats, and possibly be sarcastic and maybe even do a little dance later, but thought you might like the results hot off the virtual press... after I worked them out again once the Saubers got disqualified. Grrr. And perhaps of greater interest, the all-important running totals, taking into account the staggering overspend some of you made before the season started! (These results brought to you courtesy of the 12" vinyl copy of "Waiting For A Train" by Flash And The Pan. Choo choo CHA choo choo....)

Fantasy Formula 1 Championship 2011

Welcome to the 16 th year of Fantasy Formula 1. Many of you have been here before, but hello especially to the 12 of you who join us for the first time. I'll be posting the results here and letting those of you on twitter know when they're available. As I'm almost entirely hopeless at maths and inept with spreadsheets (plus fairly lazy) the results usually show up on the Tuesday after the race. Hey, some of us have to work y'know?! For your amusement/information, here’s what everybody chose, and how it affects their points pre-season, plus some other information on previous winners, and who picked what…. Previous Winners 2010 – Ollie C (23 competitors) 2009 – Cara T (19 competitors) 2008 – Tony D (14 competitors) 2007 – James S (16 competitors) 2006 – Tony D (21 competitors) 2005 – Dan S (22 competitors) 2004 – Will H (21 competitors) 2003 – Elise C (20 competitors) 2002 – Peter G (18 competitors) 2001 – Nigel H (14 competitors) 2000 – Peter G (13 competitors)

Testing - and then it got confusing again...

We should have been having an F1 race this weekend, but considering that state of the world at the moment, F1 fans will doubtless be relieved if we get any races at all this season, what with political upheavals, revolutions and natural disasters making the world seem a pretty bloody scary place at the moment. With Bahrain off the calendar, the F1 circus headed back to Spain for a monster 5 day test, which did little to help anyone understand... well, anything much at all really. Over the 5 days, Webber, Vettel, Perez (!), Schumacher & Rosberg were quickest, although you have to keep in mind that teams only have 1 car on the go, so you won't get Hamilton and Button battling each other for fastest lap of the day. Actually, by the look of it, neither of the McLaren boys will be battling anyone much, except maybe Hispania, unless they work miracles on their car pretty soon, so slow and fragile was their progress at this test. Perez was a surprise in the Sauber, but they di

Uh-oh. I'm hallucinating again....

No! Noooo! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Just a thought though - could they sponsor an F1 team? I quite like that colourscheme.... Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah.... WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Last place on the F1 grid goes to....

Vitantonio Liuzzi! Woo! Yeah! And the lucky Italian gets to drive... an HRT! Oh, hang on. That's not very good though, is it? Mind you, anyone who ever, in the whole history of time, sported a hair-do like that one seriously deserves a place in the crappiest car on the grid. Actually that's a bit unfair. We have no evidence that they've actually got a car for the Force India reject to drive. Liuzzi (as previously mentioned in my Team Fifi article) dumped Mr Style, even though he had a contract for another year, so that they could stick that Scottish lad with the un-Scottish name (di Resta) in the car instead. Tonio underperformed seriously, as he seems to have done for most of his time in F1 (He was in a Red Bull at one point, lest we forget), so perhaps Hispania are his last chance to prove himself. If he gets thrashed by his new team-mate Karthikeyan, it'll definitely be game over. Having said that, we're not even sure if it's game on yet, are we? Can HR
